Online Collective Action
Data Mining, the automatic extraction of implicit and potentially useful information from data, is increasingly used in commercial, scientific and other application areas. Principles of Data Mining explains and explores the principal techniques of Data Mining: for classification, association rule mining and clustering. Each topic is clearly explained and illustrated by detailed worked examples, with a focus on algorithms rather than mathematical formalism. It is written for readers without a strong background in mathematics or statistics, and any formulae used are explained in detail. This second edition has been expanded to include additional chapters on using frequent pattern trees for Association Rule Mining, comparing classifiers, ensemble classification and dealing with very large volumes of data.
Dynamics of the Crowd in Social Media This book explores and explains collective action in the new generation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) enabled by Web 2.0, also referred to as social media, and its capacity to help critical decision and policy making.

Evolution of Semantic Systems Complex systems in nature and society make use of information for the development of their internal organization and the control of their functional mechanisms. Alongside technical aspects of storing, transmitting and processing information, the various semantic aspects of information, such as meaning, sense, reference and function, play a decisive part in the analysis of such systems. With the aim of fostering a better understanding of semantic systems from an evolutionary and multidisciplinary perspective, this volume collects contributions by philosophers and natural scientists, linguists, information and computer scientists. They do not follow a single research paradigm; rather they shed, in a complementary way, new light upon some of the most important aspects of the evolution of semantic systems. Who Will Provide the Next Financial Model? Asia‘s Financial Muscle and Europe‘s Financial Maturity During the past 4 years, faith in the present financial model has been shaken in terms of policy, regulation, the financial sector itself, and exchange-rate regimes. Past and present policies of the world’s most respected central banks have come under fire. Regulations that defined the system have undergone major reviews. Complicated financial instruments that provided new ways of financial intermediation have been exposed as culprits behind the financial meltdown. After 10 years of success, Europe’s single currency is under threat. In short, the established financial model not only has been unable to prevent the crisis but, arguably, has been a cause of it. There is no longer one obvious model that meets all needs. The burst of Japan’s bubble was followed by two “lost decades”.

Post-Faustmann Forest Resource Economics This book offers a unique critique of the dominant paradigm of forest economics, Faustmann Forest Economics. It presents new economic approaches, applications of experimental methods and systems approaches, and new perspectives about temporal aspects.
Regional areas are key building blocks of society in many countries. This compilation uses Australian case study examples to demonstrate how regional areas are uniquely well-placed to contribute to national goals in innovation, infrastructure provision, water and food security, environmental sustainability, industry diversification, healthy and liveable communities, and natural disaster preparedness and response. Each of these themes is examined in the context of using innovative approaches from regions to deliver outcomes that are nationally significant.

Organizational Epistemology
Management of Alliance Networks
Understanding Knowledge in Organizations This book presents an in-depth perspective of knowledge as a fundamental process of any organization rather than just another resource to be managed. The author presents a process-oriented theory of creating and applying knowledge directed towards both researchers and practitioners. In this book the author develops normative knowledge management guidelines which draw from a unique view on knowledge, discussed in the field of philosophy since Plato but neglected by most knowledge management authors – by applying a philosophically grounded ‘social epistemology’ to organizations. The guidelines in this book call for an open and reflective space of knowledge creation, aligned with goals and structures of the organization. Due February 2013 Monograph

Introduction to Compactness Results in Symplectic Field Theory Based on the author‘s lectures, this book introduces symplectic field theory. Beginning with compactness results for holomorphic curves, the coverage includes extensions of certain compactness results believed to be true, but not yet published in detail.
Universal Algebraic Logic
the spring of 1976, George Andrews of PennsylIn vania State University visited the library at Trinity College, Cambridge, to examine the papers of the late G.N. Watson. Among these papers, Andrews discovered a sheaf of 138 pages in the handwriting of Srinivasa Ramanujan. This manuscript was soon designated, „Ramanujan‘s lost notebook.“ Its discovery has frequently been deemed the mathematical equivalent of finding Beethoven‘s tenth symphony. This volume is the fourth of five volumes that the authors plan to write on Ramanujan’s lost notebook. In contrast to the first three books on Ramanujan‘s Lost Notebook, the fourth book does not focus on q-series. Most of the entries examined in this volume fall under the purviews of number theory and classical analysis. Several incomplete manuscripts of Ramanujan published by Narosa with the lost notebook are discussed. Due February 2013 Monograph 2013. XIV, 436 p. Computing qualitatively correct approximations of balance laws Lumped fluxes for asymptotic-preserving, exponentially-fit and well-balanced schemes Substantial efforts have been drawn for many years onto the development of (possibly high-order) numerical techniques for the scalar homogeneous conservation law, an equation which has been proved to be strongly dissipative in L1 thanks to shock wave formation. Such a dissipation property is generally lost when considering hyperbolic systems of conservation laws, or simply inhomogeneous scalar balance laws involving accretive or space-dependent source terms, because of complex wave interactions. Surveys in DifferentialAlgebraic Equations I The need for a rigorous mathematical theory for Differential-Algebraic Equations (DAEs) has its roots in the widespread applications of controlled dynamical systems, especially in mechanical and electrical engineering. Due to the strong relation to (ordinary) differential equations, the literature for DAEs mainly started out from introductory textbooks. As such, the present monograph is new in the sense that it comprises survey articles on various fields of DAEs, providing reviews, presentations of the current state of research and new concepts in - Controllability for linear DAEs - Port-Hamiltonian differential-algebraic systems - Robustness of DAEs - Numerical methods and codes for differential-algebraic equations - DAEs in chemical engineering - DAEs in circuit modeling. I n this work, we construct two trivariate local Lagrange interpolation methods which yield optimal approximation order and Cr macroelements based on the Alfeld and the WorseyFarin split of a tetrahedral partition. The first interpolation method is based on cubic C1 splines over type-4 cube partitions, for which numerical tests are given. The other one is the first trivariate Lagrange interpolation method using C2 splines. It is based on arbitrary tetrahedral partitions using splines of degree nine. We construct trivariate macro-elements based on the Alfeld, where each tetrahedron is divided into four subtetrahedra, and the Worsey-Farin split, where each tetrahedron is divided into twelve subtetrahedra, of a tetra-hedral partition. Life and Fate: In Search of van der Waerden
Free Boundary Problems and Asymptotic Behavior of Singularly Perturbed Partial Differential Equations
Bartel Leendert van der Waerden was a distinguished algebraist, physicist, statistician, historian, author, and above all one of the leading algebraic geometers of his time. He made major contributions to algebraic geometry, abstract algebra, quantum mechanics, and other fields. He liberally published on the history of mathematics. Among the many books, Van der Waerden wrote the 2-volume Moderne Algebra, one of the most influential and popular mathematical books ever written. It is therefore surprising that no monograph has been dedicated to his life and work. B.L. van der Waerden is not an easy person to understand. In attempting to understand van der Waerden‘s life, Professor Soifer has assembled thousands of documents from numerous archives of Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States – which revealed fascinating and often surprising new information about Van der Waerden. Dihedral Fourier Analysis
The Gini Methodology
Data-analytic Aspects and Applications
A Primer on a Statistical Methodology
Dihedral Fourier Analysis introduces the theory and applications necessary to study experimental data indexed by, or associated with, the points in a dihedral symmetry orbit.
This book explains the theory as well as shares important applications of the Gini methodology. It demonstrates how readers may use Gini instead of variance for their research in the fields of statistics, economics, econometrics, and policy.
