Description of a Medium-sized Paraguayan Company •Paraguayan SME •Founded in 1990 •With approx. 46 employees in Nov.2003 and 60 in March 2003 •Dedicated to industrialize and sale cartoon box •Sales amount in 2004= US$ 2.498.710

Description of the implemented consulting service •Two consultations with paraguayan and japanese experts of JICA in both production and management areas •The problems analysed and recommendations implemented •After that the performance situation of the company has highly improved •Consulting time: from November, 2003 till June, 2004.

Some problems encountered were: •No control quality system •No order at the fabric •Lost by defective goods •Etc. After aproximately one year there were some positive results like:

Second semester of 2004 = the mark participation increased at 24%.

First semester of 2003 = 16% of total mark

decreasing in dezember 2004 at 2,66%. It represents a saving of approx. US$ 91.740,oo. In april 2004 = defective good of 9%

To reach all these results were implemented some improvements like: •Definition of a quality control system •Elaboration of a manual of quality control •5 S Program

The 5 S program is based on Japanese words that begin with “S”. •It focuses on effective work place organization and standardized work procedures. •It simplifies the work environment, reduces waste and non-value activity while improving quality efficiency and safety. •Once fully implemented, the 5S process can increase morally, create positive impressions on customers, and increase efficiency and organization. •Not only will employees feel better about where they work, the effect on continuous improvement can lead to less waste, better quality and faster lead times. •Any of which will make the organization more profitable and competitive in the market place.
