Using the General Purpose Proxy
1.
Preface
Definition of the General Purpose Proxy The General Purpose Proxy is a service that enables connections from the on-campus network to off-campus networks following specific protocols. By using the General Purpose Proxy, you can receive e-mails from other providers or connect to a server outside of the Waseda-net by using any commercial off-the-shelf software. Unlike the off-campus direct access services (IP-Reachable), the General Purpose Proxy lessens the burden on the users by eliminating the need to take security seminars and the need to apply for the direct access services. Since the access to off-campus networks is limited to a small number of protocols, there is merit in using the General Purpose Proxy from the viewpoint of relatively low risk in terms of security matters.
