UK and Overseas Bulletin

December 2013

Welcome

Welcome to the last Bulletin for Reaching the Unreached in the UK and overseas for 2013. It’s been a very challenging year for RTU, and full of successes and new ventures. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity and kindness which has made a huge difference to so many people’s lives this year. You will read just a few of the many stories in the accompanying Newsletter from India. Magnify these 3000-fold and you will have some idea of the scale of what you have helped achieve—thank you. Thank you too for all the donations you are sending in for Christmas. I hope you have a very peaceful and happy one and our very best wishes to you for 2014. Mo, UK Co-ordinator

Greetings cards We have greetings cards hand-stitched by the foster mothers at the Children’s Villages available to buy. There are a few different designs— each one unique— mostly of flowers, birds, peacocks and butterflies. They are £1 each (although I’m told this is very reasonable compared to other hand-made cards so please add an extra donation if you wish!). If you would like to order any, send a cheque in the post to Mo in the UK office. Please include a donation to cover postage.

Jeevan Jyothi Hospice We are delighted to have helped a satellite project of RTU recently with a gift of £10,000 after a request from Bro James and Fr Antony. Jeevan Jyothi Hospice, run by the Presentation Sisters, cares for children who are HIV+ if they become ill and need specialist medical attention. It is 25km away from RTU and has 40 beds. Children stay at Jeevan Jyothi until they are well enough to return to their home in the Children’s Villages. As well as providing a service for children and adults at the hospice, Jeevan Jyothi meets the needs of people with HIV in the surrounding villages and has an extensive outreach programme, ensuring that people with HIV/AIDS get the right drug therapy and good nutrition. This picture was taken of a little girl as she returns

to RTU after a month’s stay at Jeevan Jyothi.

Thank you I would like to thank you for your kind letters and generous contributions for RTU’s vital work throughout the year—however large or small. I would particularly like to thank you if you have supported Reaching the Unreached for the first time in 2013—a very warm welcome to you. And I would also like to mention the following who have had church collections, organised events, done talks since the last Newsletter was circulated—thank you for all you do and the time you commit to helping:  John Harwood and friends in Worcester for their monthly events and metal recycling  Parishioners of Sacred Heart & St Therese in Paignton, Devon for their coffee mornings  Parishioners of St Thomas of Canterbury, Fairford in Gloucester  The Parishioners of Sacred Heart and St Joseph’s in Bardon and Grayshott, Hampshire  All at Bexhill Christian Spiritualist Church, East Sussex  All at St Nicholas Church, Steventon, Hampshire  Parishioners of St Anislaus, Dulverton for their produce sale  All at Les Amis de l’Eglise Anglicane, Fontainebleau, France  Parishioners of St Andrew’s Church, Rushmere, Suffolk for their quiz night and RTU collection throughout October  Parishioners of Holy Trinity & St Andrew’s, Ashe in Hampshire  All at St Michael’s Church, Worthing for their continued support of the house-building programme  The Lutherian Church, Munich, Germany  The Union of Catholic Mothers at St Peter’s Church in Hove  To Christian and Katherine Davies for asking for donations to RTU in lieu of wedding presents—many congratulations to you!  To Maurine Dunsmore for asking for donations in lieu of birthday presents  Jane Turner and friends from the annual South India Reunion Lunch  All at the De La Salle Association Club at Beauchief, Sheffield for their RTU collecting box  Directors of Kimpton Building Services for their generous donation to mark the 50th anniversary of the company  Sisters of La Retrait, Sandford, Bristol  All at St Thomas More, Bournemouth  All at Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Frimley in Surrey  The One World Group at St Joseph’s, Malvern  Catherine Fortlage from her talks on dowsing  All at St Mary’s Church in Poole for their monthly produce stall  All those who organised, took part in or sent donations in support of the annual sponsored walk in Poole, Dorset for the Bro Lionel Fund  All those who sponsor our children and students at college  Everyone else—too numerous to mention!

Annual Report The Trustees of Reaching the Unreached in the UK recently held the AGM where the annual report and accounts for the financial year ending 31st March 2013 were accepted. These are now filed with the Charity Commission and can be viewed online on their website at: www.charitycommission.gov.uk. Do ask if you have any queries or would like a hard copy. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to commit to funding 41% of the annual budget for Reaching the Unreached in India plus some additional funds requested. This is how your donations were split for the year, depending on the need to fund the different projects: We transferred just over £330,000 during the financial year which was equivalent to nearly 28m rupees. The exchange rate varied during the year from 80 to 87 rupees to the £.
