Abstract: The linear progru~nmingis a well-known mat/zematical method and the most used technique in the general ureu oftlze mrmugement. In this paper this mathematical technique will be applied to fibregluss bout industty. T?tis nzethod is also suitable for building fibreglass boat for river tran.sportu/ion. It is known to the production engineer in a shipyard that to build u fibreglass boat many construction components ore required. The major componects for n lypiculfihreg1as.s hou/ are fihreglcrss ,nu/, fibreglass cloth, re.sin and labor. Ib increase ihc profit the production manager has to have a good production scheduling of these ruw materi~ls.A good production scheduling will reduce the inventory and labor cost because the raw material can be used all and there is no material shortage. As a case study, this paper will show an application ofthe linear programming us a tool to help the production manager to schedule the resources that go into the production of fibreglass l$eboats. There three parameters of building a boat or other marine ./chicles that is ussualy be optimized. The aspects are weight, vessel performance and cost. The Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) , which has common name as fibrzglass, is the most applicable material that suits these three requirements for building a boat. The lightweight, good strength and low maintenance structures are the characteristics of this fibreglass product. Beau= of these characteristics the fibreglass boating industq are blooming. This situation leads to the shipyard to maximize the profit by optimizing the resource that they have in the yard. One of the simple technique that can be used to calculate the profit in related to availability of the resource is the application of the linear programming.

The application of the fibreglass on to marille vehicles is still limited to the small ships such m lifeboat, speed boat, inspection ship, yatch and fishing boat. The use of fibreglas material on a boat building has some advantages: 1. Excelent corrosion resistance and good weathering properties 2. Easy to maintain and repair 3. Easily coloured during manufacturing 4. Good strength to weight and stifiess to weight ratio 5. Easy to h d l e lightweight, giving low cost of material handling equipment 6. Immune to marine fouling organism Fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP) is when the fibres of the g!ass is strengthen using a special resin. The function of this resin is not only to combine the fibres into a desired shape but aiso
