STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING In accordance with AR 600-8-19, Enlisted Promotions and Reductions, paragraph 10-19.b., I understand that a voluntary acceptance of a technician position, where the authorized grade is below the grade I currently hold, will result in demotion to the lower military grade of __________ if selected. If approved by the unit CDR, a Soldier may volunteer, in writing, on DA Form 4187 for reduction to any lower grade for reassignment to another position, to another program, or to continue in service. The promotion authority may then administratively reduce the Soldier without board action. I further understand that this demotion would be “without prejudice” and will not preclude subsequent promotion(s) under AR 600-8-19, Enlisted Promotions and Reductions. I further understand that my Date of Rank (DOR) will remain the same as that previously held in the grade to which reduced. A copy of the statement will be in my personnel file and will not be removed until I am separated or promoted; whichever is sooner.
