Sir, I am directed to refer to your letter No. F.No. 1-12/2003/Acdn/Edn. dated 9 July, 2007

on the subject mentioned above and to say that the test conductt:d by

A.P.C.S.c. or by any other states is called State Eligibility Test (SET) and not NET. This test (SET) was also known earlier as SLET. As regard the candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET), accredited by UGC for eligibility of LectureshipJheld prior to 15t June 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET. But those candidates who have cleared/qualified the SET held 51

June 2002 onwards, are eligible only to apply for the post of lecturer in the

universities/colleges belonging to the same state whose SET examination they have cleared.. Regarding equivalence between the NET conducted by UGC, CSIR and ICAR, it may be noted that the NET conducted by all the three bodies is mutually recognized. Photo copies of letters issued by UGC in the above matters are also enclosed.
