Guest Editorial Special Issue on Selected Papers from the IEEE Sensors 2011 Conference

S

INCE 2002, the IEEE Sensors Conference is held annually to provide an active forum for research scientists, engineers, and practitioners throughout the world, to present their latest research findings, ideas, and applications in the area of sensors and sensing technologies. After the Conference, the IEEE S ENSORS J OURNAL is keen to invite the authors of the best-scored papers to submit an extended and more detailed version of the work presented at the Conference, to be published in a Special Issue of the IEEE S ENSORS J OURNAL. This Special Issue collects the extended version of the 22 best-scored papers presented at the IEEE Sensors Conference 2011, held in Limerick, Ireland, in November 2011. This Issue shows a snapshot of the most promising technologies for sensing, and many novel applications of sensors. They range from novel applications of CMOS sensors, to new sensors for chemical parameters, to embedded sensors, to biologically-inspired sensors, new wireless sensor networks, as well as smart demodulation and processing schemes for sensor interrogation. They reflect an enduring appeal of many diverse concepts and technologies for implementing new, versatile, reliable, and better performing sensors. The Guest Editors of this Special Issue are grateful to all the authors for their efforts in submitting such a high-quality papers, and to all the reviewers for their time in commenting and improving the research works presented. Also, Alison

Larkin is acknowledged for her patience and continuous commitment, making the publication of this Issue possible.
