Lean Distribution Center Implementation Workshop Description: This two-day workshop is for people responsible for implementing Lean Principles in a distribution center operation. The workshop combines lecture, group discussion, participative simulations, and group exercises. Topics include the development of a storage environment that enables a standardized environment with improved efficiency, quality, safety , and improved space utilization. We will also review the phases and steps to transform your operational processes to improve customer service, reduce costs and provide a problem solving environment for continuous improvement.

Objective and Purpose: An interactive workshop which visually demonstrates the merits of Lean storage, small batch and takt in a Lean distribution center environment. •  The 1st Simulation reflects a conventional distribution center and its impact on customers, associates and management. •  The 2nd Simulation reflects a distribution center after a Lean benchmarking trip taken by management •  The 3rd Simulation will reflect an operation after Lean Storage and Processes have been implemented.

Duration: Format: Class Size:

Sixteen Hours Instruction, group discussion and participative simulation Minimum 12 to Maximum 25 participants

Benefits: You will learn the key steps for implementing Lean Principles and converting a traditional warehouse operation. Hands-on participation in a simulation will teach you how to apply the tools so you can repeat the application in your environment. Companies applying these principles, components, steps and tools have experienced operational improvements, reduced internal damage and injuries along with improved storage and operational efficiencies of 15% to 30%.

Course Outline: Day One 1.  Lean Warehouse Overview 2.  1st Simulation – Traditional Operation 3.  2nd Simulation – After Lean Benchmarking 4.  Lean Implementation Frameworks 5.  Lean Storage •  Group Exercise Day Two 1.  Lean Implementation Framework 2.  Process Implementation Phases 1 – 3 3.  Standardize/Stabilize Current State •  Future State Standardized Work •  Group exercise •  Future State Operational Design 4.  Process Implementation Phases 4 – 5 •  Synchronized Operations / Exercises •  Stabilize/Improve Processes 5.  3rd Simulation – Lean Distribution Center Operation 6.  Summary

Who Should Attend: •  Organizations at any stage of a lean journey •  All levels of management from Vice President to supervisor, change agents, professional staff and hourly associates Participant Feedback: “Good learning activities” “I liked the break out sessions” “I enjoyed the discussions and engagement of instructors” “I really liked the simulation” “Excellent job of opening our eyes”
