SAP-SCS Implementation
Implementing the Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the South China Sea (SCS) The project provides focused effort and resources to align conservation policy with on-the-ground action and enforcement. It is designed to contribute to the reduction of threats to biodiversity (Poaching and use of illegally harvested wildlife & wildlife products). It adopts a multifaceted and integrated ecosystems management approach which in the long term improves ecosystem services and increases wildlife conservation and human well-being through enabling integration of conservation outcomes with development objectives, supporting local ownership and ensuring that lessons learned are applied at scale on two pilot areas: the province of Palawan and the Sulu Archipelago.
OBJECTIVE Assist countries in meeting the targets of the approved Strategic Action Programme (SAP) for the marine and coastal environment of the South China Sea (SCS) through implementation of the National Action Plans in support of the SAP, and strengthening regional co-ordination for SCS SAP implementation
COMPONENTS Reducing habitat degradation and loss via national and local reforms to achieve Strategic Action Programme targets for coastal habitat management in the South China Sea Component. 2. Strengthening knowledge-based action planning for the management of coastal habitats and land-based pollution to reduce environmental degradation of the South China Sea Component. 3.
