The Summer Reading Program Continues to inspire children to read. Our summer reading program will go through the end of July. Children of all ages can benefit from this program. While having a blast they will be a more prepared reader for the coming school year. It’s not to late to sign up!

Ready, Set, Draw with Nathan Rice Calling all artists! Come try your hand at sketching. Meet a great Comic Book Illustrator, Nathan Rice. There are two sessions remaining. July 13th and August 10th. Come to the library and explore the artist in you! All sessions @ 1 and 3 p.m.

Animal Underground by animal tales Explore with us the underground lives of the Harris Hawk, Green Anaconda, and Fruit Bat. These incredible animals will visit us July 30, 2013. Are you interested in knowing how they live underground? Two shows will be held 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Mad Science Special Events is a spectacular science-themed show on tap at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2nd. Children can conjure foggy dry ice storms, float on a Mad Science hovercraft, watch a foam factory at work, create super bouncy balls!

The Poplar Bluff Municipal Library was a recipient of a “Summer Reading Program Collection Development Grant “ from LSTA in the amount of $3,766 in May 2013. The grant provides funding for purchasing of books supporting our 2013 Summer Reading Program. With the assistance of (LSTA) we were able to expand services for our children and those in neighboring communities. Additional educational resources in a variety of formats have been made available as part of our library services. Participants of this years Summer Reading Program have experienced social, intellectual, and cultural growth as well as quality programming through the Children ‘s Library Department. This Summer Reading Program is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.

It is collected by the State of Missouri and, by Statute, is to be distributed among the following five groups: Missouri State Library Networking Fund (10%), Missouri Humanities Council Trust Fund (10%); Missouri Public Television Broadcasting Corporation Special Fund (10%); Missouri Historic Preservation Revolving Fund (10%) and the Missouri Arts Council Trust Fund (60%).
