Belfast Connection Irish Folk Friday, March 8, 2013
Heidi Hayes Cabaret Saturday, April 13, 2013
Grace Bernicker Teen Singer/Songwriter Friday, May 3, 2012
The Belfast Connection is a three-piece band featuring Charles Kadyk on the fiddle, Joe Hughes on mandolin, banjo and guitar and Frank Reed on upright bass and guitar. They infuse each performance with energy as they tell the story of Ireland and her people. The band performs a wide collection of well-known Irish pub songs and ballads and their diverse musical influences highlight their versatility and musicianship. Their show will invite you to sing along!
A voice and a piano is all that’s needed for a great evening of cabaret with Heidi Hayes. Known for her warmth, wit and versatility, Heidi will present songs and stories from her travels through life and around the world, as well as beloved tunes from the Great American Songbook. Sharing laughter, joy and bittersweet memories, Heidi’s special voice and heart speak to everyone.
Philadelphia native singer/songwriter, Grace Bernicker, brings her passion-driven, straightfrom-the-heart country and pop songs to Darlington’s first Teen Coffee House. Grace’s songs have a strong lyrical quality that paint an image for her audience while she shares her story. Influenced by the soulful sounds of Bonnie Raitt and Martina McBride, Grace makes each song her own by creating a complex blend of girl-next-door sweetness with the high-energy kicks of a Sugarland tune that will keep her audience moving!

Suzuki Violin Program The Suzuki Method The Suzuki method of learning to play an instrument is based on the ideas of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. He believed every child has an innate musical talent and music is best learned in the same way that a native language is learned. The main concepts of the Suzuki method include: starting lessons early, parent participation and encouragement, listening and daily practice, individual and group lessons. Students ages 3 – 6 begin in Pre-Twinkle Violin group classes. Upon graduation, students advance to Twinkler Violin. In addition to weekly group classes, Twinkler students receive 30-minute weekly private lessons. During these classes and lessons, students will learn the notes to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and five variations of that song. Graduates of Twinkler Violin will continue their weekly private lessons and progress through the Suzuki Violin Books in weekly group classes.
Pre-Twinkle Violin
Weekly 30-minute Group Class Pre-Twinkle Violin classes prepare a child to approach the violin with an eager, successful, and musical disposition. Students will learn the fundamental elements of violin playing: basic posture, bow hold, violin hold, and 5 Suzuki rhythms in a fun and high-energy setting. This prepares students for the next level, Twinkler Violin. Teacher – Liao

Payment Plans & Late Fees
Payment plans are available for private music lessons during the academic year, preschool and 34-week dance classes. Refer to the appropriate section below for details. Darlington’s online registration system allows automatic billing, which you can set up by visiting www.darlingtonarts. org. (Note: Families must re-enroll in automatic billing each year.) If you are in need of a special payment schedule, please contact the office. Because Darlington needs to meet its financial obligations, including paying instructors’ salaries, we ask that all students pay tuition and fees on time. A late fee of $15 will be charged for payments made more than 5 days past the payment plan due date. Darlington may suspend instruction for students who do not meet their financial obligations.
Scholarships Through the generosity of our funders, Darlington has a limited amount of scholarships for families in need. To be considered, please send a letter to the Executive Director by August 15. Your letter should include the reasons it is important for you/ your child to receive instruction and the reasons you are in need of financial assistance.
Parental Responsibility
Parents have sole responsibility for children before and after scheduled class times. Please be prompt in both delivering and picking up your children. Certain programs (such as Camp and Arts All Day Workshops) offer Before- and AfterCare, available in one hour increments, which are subject to Darlington’s Registration and Withdrawal policies. Parents play a great role in their children’s success in their participation in the arts. Parents are encouraged to get to know their children’s instructors and attend special class activities. Parents are invited to attend the first 10 minutes of the first class in which their children are enrolled each semester. A Parent Week will also be scheduled mid-semester, in which parents will be invited to attend a portion of class.

Outreach Programs In addition to the classes and private instruction at the Center, Darlington reaches out to children with special needs and economically disadvantaged youth living in the urban areas of Chester and West Chester. Chester Theater Arts Program
The Chester Youth Theater Arts Program brings music, dance and drama training to children ages 5–18 living in the city of Chester on Saturdays. Children perform works they have created twice a year for family and friends.
Suzuki Violin
Darlington offers Suzuki violin instruction in three schools: Toby Farms Intermediate School and Chester Charter School for the Arts (CCSA) in the city of Chester, and the Chester County Family Academy in West Chester. Since 1999 over 550 students have received weekly violin training from Darlington Teaching Artists. These outreach programs are funded through grants and individual donations. If you would like to help support arts education in your community through Darlington Arts Center, please contact the Executive Director.

Darlington Arts Center is a non-profit organization. Tuition makes up less than 80% of our expenses, and we depend on our parent, alumni, individual, corporate and foundation donors for their annual support. It is through the commitment and generosity of these supporters, as well as our faculty and staff, that the Center’s programs and beautiful facility are possible.
