Here’s a selection of our case studies...

UK Investment Summit Freshwater managed the UK Investment Summit on behalf of the UK and Welsh Governments in 2014. The conference at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport was aimed at global c-suite executives and showcased the UK as a great place to do business. Our design team produced the event logo, registration portal, atevent collateral and graphics. Working with both governments to compile a target list of invitees, we sent a two-tiered invitation consisting of a printed invitation and an emailer. We created floorplans and 3D designs for the main summit room, pre-event dinner and a showcase area of Britain’s best technological products. We also produced high impact graphics showcasing Wales and the UK. Freshwater was also responsible for set design, build and audio visual, security and liaison with speakers on the day - including the Prime Minister, Rt Hon David Cameron MP, the First Minister of Wales, Rt Hon Carwyn Jones AM, the Secretary of State for Wales, Rt Hon Stephen Crabb MP, the Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Livingston and key players in technology and business. Over 200 delegates attended, exceeding the event target. We also received fantastic feedback from the client and delegates on the conference’s production and management.

FeD Launch New food exploration destination FeD approached Freshwater to manage the opening of its first restaurant in Cardiff. Our brief included a PR campaign to create a buzz in the run up to the opening, as well as masterminding and managing a high-profile VIP event attended by key journalists, bloggers and other movers and shakers. Our announcement of FeD’s arrival on Cardiff’s growing food scene secured significant press and online coverage, as did regular updates on the restaurant’s progress. We also identified opportunities with local, regional and national media, securing recipe files, profiles of the restaurant’s founders, ‘first look’ photo galleries, restaurant reviews and competitions in key press and on social media. More than 200 guests were invited to our VIP event, where they were offered the chance to escape the January blues by visiting FeD’s nine different world kitchens. To continue the jetset theme, we created a passport for guests to have stamped at each kitchen before being entered into a free prize draw, encouraging them to sample each of the different cuisines. Goody bags filled with FeD-branded travel essentials, a photo booth featuring props and backgrounds of global holiday destinations, as well as an exclusive discount offer were handed out on departure. The event was a huge hit on Twitter and also secured substantial press coverage, with galleries of the guests appearing in both print and online, as well as several highly positive reviews from influential Welsh food bloggers.

Unite Policy Conference Having previously delivered successful events for Unite the Union, the organisation commissioned Freshwater to manage their Policy Conference.
Freshwater’s events management team developed a series of to-scale 3D animation and fly-through visualisations as part of the planning and management of the conference.
The largest and most high profile event in terms of scale, attendees and budgets to date, the conference was a five-day flagship event with an exhibition hall for around 55 exhibitors and other fringe events.
Graphics for traditional billboards, digital advertising and even an outer-wrap of the event’s venue in Liverpool were branded and designed by Freshwater. The adverts featured at local train stations and shopping centres.
Over 1,000 delegates attended and, with almost 2 million members, we also needed to cater for a large internet audience for key speeches.
Following the success of the event, Freshwater continues to provide event management support to Unite.

South Hook LNG Launch In six weeks Freshwater planned, built and managed a large scale, temporary exhibition to open and inaugurate Milford Haven’s South Hook Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal. The event was attended by high-profile figures including Her Majesty The Queen. The brief was to inform, engage and enthuse the 300 guests and media invited to the event and to communicate the benefits of the Qatargas 2 project. With a 1.5 hour running time, we provided guests with information via innovative technology – mirroring South Hook LNG, a forward-thinking organisation. Freshwater devised a ‘trail’ through the exhibit featuring two rotating stages, LED under-lit seating and
transporter ship models. It told the facility’s ‘story’ and its significance to the UK energy market. Our design team also produced detailed flat and 3D floor plans for the exhibition in the lead up to the event to illustrate our ideas to the client. The inauguration significantly boosted profile and strengthened the UK and Qatar’s relationship. The exhibition design was received incredibly well, with all client contacts delighted with the results.

Wales True Taste Food & Drink Awards
The Wales True Taste Food and Drink Awards were the ‘Oscars’ of the Welsh food and drink industry. Freshwater managed the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Wales the True Taste Food and Drink Awards on behalf of the Welsh Government, providing event management, set design, marketing support, sponsorship, graphic design, bilingual delegate hotline and video production. At its peak, the website we created for the awards, truetaste.tv, featured more than 300 videos. In 2012, with the awards in its 10th year, we introduced a new consumer-facing element - The People's Choice Awards.
This element enabled us to widen the appeal of the awards and helped us to attract £90,000 in sponsorship from the likes of Tesco and Rachel's Organic as well as secure media partnerships with S4C and ITV Wales.

Natuzzi Flagship Store Launch Italian furniture retailer, Natuzzi, previously sold through concessions in Selfridges and Harrods but Freshwater was briefed to create a high-profile buzz to launch its flagship UK store on Finchley Road. We devised a three-part launch plan. Pre-event activity included Italian male models driving Natuzzi-branded Vespas in Central London and Italian themed hampers delivered by an Italian model to radio DJs in the capital before the launch. A press preview organised by our PR team included a breakfast briefing in store with founder, Pasquale Natuzzi, for consumer magazine editors on launch day. Trade press interviews followed in the afternoon.
The launch party saw Ray Gelato & the Giants entertain guests with music from a top London DJ taking them into the early hours. Award-winning mixologist, Salvatore Calabrese, crafted cocktails named after key Natuzzi products and an auction to bid on one-off dresses made of Natuzzi fabrics, designed by London Fashion Week’s Young designer of the year in aid of The Children’s Society. The event attracted over 250 attendees, press coverage snowballed and the event established the blueprint for launches worldwide.

International Maritime Pilots Congress
IMPA Congre XI
London 2012
The UK Maritime Pilots Association asked us to deliver their international biennial congress. Hosted in central London against the backdrop of the London Olympics and Jubilee celebrations in 2012, expectations were high and it was to be the flagship event. Freshwater delivered all aspects of the six-day event including design, selection and management of the venue, staging and audio visual, accommodation, catering, entertainment and the exhibition area. We were also asked to manage and promote the conference to appropriate attendees worldwide. We built a booking system linking back from the website with the facility to email relevant updates to keep everyone informed. This system allowed us to take payments from delegates as well as to raise exhibitor contracts and invoices. The event was attended by over 500 delegates from 26 different countries, speaking 14 different languages. The client and all delegates agreed it was the smoothest and most exciting conference they could remember, exceeding the standard previously set in Australia at the 2010 congress and setting a high benchmark for Panama, to whom the congress flag was handed at the closing ceremony.

John Lewis Home Collection Launch After many successful branch openings, Freshwater was appointed by department store, John Lewis, to organise their Spring/Summer Home Collection launch. We worked with interior designer and star of ITV’s This Morning and BBC’s Home Front, Andrea Maflin, to organise four in-store customer events in Glasgow, Manchester, Peterborough and Bluewater to launch the new collection to shoppers. Organising the event with branch coordinators, we arranged staging, sound, lighting, catering, invitations and local PR. With Andrea, we sourced products for each show and managed logistics on the day. Each show was divided into four sessions; two bedroom and two living room designs. Partners from the John Lewis Home Advice team then presented the products while Andrea talked the audience through the designs. With intensive local press campaigns in the run up to events, no seats were left empty at every show. This resulted in a spike in in Home Advice bookings in all branches involved.

Football Association Wales Roadshows Freshwater has worked with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) since 2009 on a diverse range of projects such as community engagement, event management, brand development, graphic design, presentation consultancy and bid packages. Freshwater organised a range of FAW roadshows to promote coaching and volunteering throughout Welsh football as part of its community engagement programme. The roadshow visited more than 45 public events and Freshwater incorporated events management to organise the touring exhibition unit. The roadshow visited events including Wales international matches and womens’ football, local Welsh league games and youth matches. We also took the exhibition to high-profile Welsh events such as the Royal Welsh Show and National Eisteddfod. The client identified a range of locations from
grassroots matches to prestigious events and it was our task to gain entry passes, transit the exhibition, set-up and dismantle at the site and safely store the materials until the next event. The exhibition trailer was sourced by Freshwater and its wrap was customised and implemented by our specialist design and events teams. At the events, Freshwater operated the roadshow, created a fun atmosphere and won the interest of attendees. The versatile exhibition featured mascots, games and giveaways which created a high-level of audience engagement. The roadshow had varying set-ups and saw a replica changing room, Xbox experience and outdoor inflatable penalty shootout called the ‘speed shot’ which was present at events with lots of children.

Curvissa – Curve Project Workshop Plus-size online fashion brand, Curvissa.co.uk chose Freshwater to help launch its Spring/Summer womenswear collection by generating content for multiple channels and increasing brand awareness. Freshwater delivered a unique launch event for the collection with Curve Project London: the UK’s first intensive body confidence workshop. We invited influential plus-size fashion bloggers and coordinated social media competitions to recruit members of the public to attend.
We developed a bespoke programme of styling and mentoring of guests to communicate Curvissa’s key message, ‘Style at Any Size’ through many avenues at the event. This consisted of a lookbook to highlight hero pieces from the collection, confidence talks, catwalk training, photo shoot and a filmed catwalk show. The content was seeded to bloggers and online media and used across Curvissa’s social media channels. Nine influential bloggers attended and produced over 100 pieces of positive content about Curvissa via Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and personal blogs. This lead to requests to the Curvissa press office for brand images or look book samples from bloggers and the media.

Cavendish Square Group Launch The Chief Executives of the ten London Trusts responsible for mental health services have been meeting at 20 Cavendish Square for over a decade to discuss issues of common interest. Freshwater worked with the leadership at the Trusts to create a new brand identity and narrative that would allow them to amplify and assert greater influence over key issues affecting mental health care. The Cavendish Square Group – as it is now known – was officially launched in February 2015 with an event managed by Freshwater’s specialist events team. The Rt. Hon. Norman Lamb MP delivered an inaugural lecture at the event, which was attended by influential stakeholders from across the public and not-for-profit sectors.
Following a venue selection process which included site visits, the Royal Society of Arts, just off the Strand was selected as the venue for the launch. Aside from its central location, the RSA’s commitment to a Mental Wellbeing and Social Inclusion programme was a key factor when making the final decision. Freshwater worked with the Group to develop a suite of collateral for use during the launch event including; roller banners, lighting effects, programmes and an infographic for use across social media. The event was well-attended with positive feedback from all involved including the office of the Minister.
