FALL 2012 NEWSLETTER Table of Contents

A Message from the Secretary Congratulations to everyone for a successful semester! This fall, our club has grown in every way possible and it has made us better than ever before. As your secretary, I had a wonderful time getting to know every single one of you. Joanna, our president, has done a fabulous job leading us to our highest potential. In fact, our entire executive board deserves a round of applause for all the time and effort they have put into the club this semester. In addition, I want to thank every member, whether a general club or team member, for being so dedicated to the club. Without you, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your secretary. It is an honor to be associated with this club and I cannot wait to see what we will accomplish in the future! Happy Holidays! Fall 2012

CLUB NEWS With over one hundred members, the club has participated in many different events! We have had five fundraisers and four community service projects. Due to the addition of the new social requirement that was implemented this semester, we had a high turnout at all of our socials, including a tie-dye event and a social with some of the other sports clubs. This semester, the club had a float in the homecoming parade! We would like to give special thanks to Hallet Training and Kimberden Farm for donating their horses to the float. Shout out to Duke and Doc, the horses that pulled our carriage!

A Special Thank You: The University of Florida Equestrian Club would like to personally thank the businesses and organizations that have allowed us to hold fundraisers and volunteer with them:

Hunt Seat Team

What a semester the Hunt Seat team has had, with a lot of positive changes! With over sixty members, the team has grown in size and ability! We train at a new facility this year, Kimberden Farm, and with three WONDERFUL coaches: Kim Burnette, Karen Kenny, and Ashley Myers. For the first time, the Hunt Seat team hosted an intramural show at Kimberden for team members only. Run like an IHSA show, the riders were split into different teams and competed against each other. The second intramural show will be held next semester.

Savannah College of Art and Design. The team has been doing great in the new region, coming in third at the three shows this semester at FSU, SCAD, and FAU. We currently stand second in the region. We would like to give a shout out to Samantha Boehm, who pointed out of Novice Flat at FAU, and Taylor Shekels, who was High Point rider and pointed out of Novice Flat at SCAD. Our home show will be held January at Kimberden. Good luck to all our riders competing next semester! 26th

In addition, the team is in a new region of IHSA- zone 5, region 5, which includes the schools in Florida and 3

Western Team We have had a strong season so far. With the help of our coach, Sam Barrett, our team is building off the success of last year. This semester, we won reserve high point team at both shows at USF, with Sarah Oliver being our high point rider in the PM show. Many of our new members have greatly contributed to our team standings as a whole- they have brought us many first places! On December 1st, we hosted our home show at the Horse Teaching Unit. It was extremely successful. We would like to give a big shout out to everyone who volunteered at the show and to our captain and co-captain for organizing it all. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Dressage Team

The Dressage team, like the hunt seat team, has a new coach this year! Maria Hallet of Hallet Training has taken on the team with open arms, and we are doing great under her coaching!

This semester we competed at two shows, CF and UCF. At both, we won reserve high point team! All of the girls are riding beautifully and are extremely dedicated to the team. We would like to congratulate a few of our riders who have won individual ribbons this semester: •

Leah Feiner: High Point Rider

Erin Bentley: High Point Rider

Ariel Smith: Reserve High Point Rider

We are looking forward to our competitions next semester!
