2.4. Other transcription conventions Generally, wherever variability existed with respect to the spelling conventions of certain words in the spoken component (e.g. between the British and the American variants of hono(u)r), the British spelling was chosen for the transcription. For the abbreviated form of because cos was chosen over coz or cause. Transcription was carried out at the orthographic level, which means that the results of phonological processes such as the addition of an epenthetic vowel after voiced plosives, or metathesis (such as aks for ask) were not transcribed, unless these processes are typically Jamaican, e.g. the form likl for little. Words like these were marked as if entries for them could be found in either the Dictionary of Caribbean English (Allsopp 1996) or the Dictionary of Jamaican English (Cassidy and Le Page 21984). Moreover, passages that are distinctly creole in their lexis, morphology and/or syntax were marked as well.
