INTRODUCTION – PURPOSE OF THE APPLICATION • Surveillance is the monitoring of the behavior, activities, or other changing information, usually of people for the purpose of influencing, managing, directing, or protecting them. •

Wireless sensors networks (WSNs) became a successful alternative to cabled systems used for surveillance or monitoring, and also has lower costs for implementation improving the quality of medical care.

• The paper presents a solution for a surveillance system based on a BeagleBoard-XM card and ZigBee modules. • The general purpose of this application is the ability to monitoring persons in hospitals, patients diagnosed with chronic diseases, independent living seniors and in-patients being cared for in assisted living facilities.

MONITORING SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE - there are two types of modules: an acquisition node, and a collector module for centralizing data from acquisition nodes;

- communication between them is performed by the ZigBee protocol;

- for the collector module in order to centralize data from the acquisition nodes we employ a laptop/PC, where the images and data arrive from several acquisition systems. 24.11.2015
