WORK HOURS NUMBER OF MONTHS PER YEAR

POSITION PURPOSE: Leads and manages documentation procedures and projects resulting in clear, concise, and accurate support materials for district tools and initiatives that present technical information in a user-friendly format for non-technical users. Administers and supports components of various Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) enterprise applications including but not limited to SchoolMessenger (district automated calling system), WebEvents (web-based calendaring solution) and blog and wiki tools. Creates and maintains Technology Services Department (TSD) Internet and intranet web presences, including support sites for specific TSD initiatives such as Google Apps, PowerSchool and iOS devices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  Extensive knowledge of and experience with technical writing, copyediting, proofreading, and grammar;  Demonstrated knowledge and competence working in a Windows PC environment;  Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Desktop Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher);  Superior written, oral, and customer service skills;  Ability to effectively communicate and interact with technical staff and a diverse group of end users to assess needs and provide solutions;  Ability to be detail oriented, and produce professional, clear and concise technical and end-user documentation, “how-to” guides and procedural documents;  Ability to establish priorities and adjust to varying needs and deadlines. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE  Bachelor’s degree in a related field;  Two years of experience writing end-user or other documentation;  Experience delivering training and presentations;  One year of experience as a website administrator;  One year of web-based application administration with responsibilities including user management, development of policies and procedures and end-user support;  Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience which provide the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

POSITION DESCRIPTION PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications/Writing, English, or Journalism;  Experience developing video tutorials using Camtasia Studio or other screen capture video tool;  Experience leading webinars;  Experience with Schoolwires or other content management system;  Demonstrated knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite of web development tools (Dreamweaver, Fireworks);  Working knowledge and/or understanding of a variety of web development technologies such as HTML, XML, and CSS. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Works closely with Technology Services Department (TSD) process owners and other WCPSS staff to research, plan, write and update end-user documentation including but not limited to manuals, guides, and video tutorials. 2. Develops and maintains documentation standards regarding order, clarity, readability, conciseness, style and terminology. 3. Develops online training and promotional materials (PowerPoint presentations, flyers, brochures, manuals, handouts, video tutorials, etc.) and internal communication materials for approved TSD and WCPSS initiatives. 4. Develops and maintains templates for documents, websites and video tutorials. 5. Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format or content. 6. Ensures that the TSD Internet and intranet web sites are functional, effective and an up-to-date content rich information source for school system faculty and staff. 7. Serves as System Administrator and coordinates implementation of all upgrades, releases, and monitoring of the SchoolMessenger automated calling system and WebEvents online calendaring servers. 8. Provides level II technical assistance to end users of SchoolMessenger, blogs, wikis, and WebEvents. 9. Performs other related duties as assigned. WORKING CONDITIONS: PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. Must be able to communicate effectively. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to ten pounds. Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for sedentary work. WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be able to work in an office and school environment and come into direct contact with employees, students and vendors.
