RF Design/Test Engineer Enablence, a leading supplier of optical components and subsystems for access, metro, and long-haul telecommunications markets, is seeking a RF Design/Test Engineer to join our Product Development team in Ottawa. Reporting to the Director of Product Development, this Engineer will be involved in both the design and testing of high-speed optoelectronic modules. The RF Design/Test Engineer will be responsible for the design, layout, and review of RF circuitry and schematics. This work will span a wide range of applications and data rates, including test boards from DC up to 100 Gb/s, with the emphasis on 10 Gb/s direct modulation and 25 GHz (coherent QPSK). The RF Design/Test Engineer will be directly involved with the development of software and hardware for the testing of integrated optoelectronic components and sub-assemblies. The RF Design/Test Engineer’s responsibilities will include: • Design, layout, and schematic generation of RF circuit boards for a variety of applications and data rates from DC to over 10 Gb/s (direct and coherent) • Evaluation and debugging of RF circuits, including evaluation boards for highspeed optical transmitter and receiver modules • Testing of high-speed optoelectronic components • Design and troubleshooting of typical RF packaging techniques including wirebonds, ceramics, and packaging • Managing the design and fabrication of PCBs at external contractors The candidate should be fully capable of operating independently on the design and layout of high-speed PCBs at up to 25 GHz. Working experience with Cadence Allegro EDA software would be a very strong asset. The ideal candidate would also be comfortable in a laboratory environment, with experience in RF testing. Familiarity with RF packaging techniques would be a strong asset. The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in RF Engineering with several years of directly relevant experience, preferably within a telecommunication components company. A strong RF Design or Testing background is a necessity. Direct hands-on experience with high-speed optical transmitters or receivers will be considered a strong asset, as would knowledge of MCU and firmware programming. The candidate must be a team player, and must also be able to work with minimal supervision. Enablence offers a competitive salary, a generous benefits package, and the opportunity to step up and make an immediate impact to an established product development team in Ottawa.
