Supporting Implementation of Maritime Spatial Planning in the Northern European Atlantic Programme Call for Proposal

European Maritime Fisheries Fund Work Programme 2015 Projects on Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) EASME/EMFF/2015/1.2.1.3

SIMNORAT Supporting Implementation of Maritime Spatial Planning in the Northern Atlantic region SIMNORAT involves public authorities in charge of MSP, in Northern Atlantic Member States. The action focuses on two key objectives: -

To Support the implementation of the Directive on Maritime Spatial Planning in Member States' marine waters;

-

To Launch and carry out concrete, cross-border MSP cooperation between Member States in the Northern Atlantic region, involving three Member States and the relevant authorities responsible for MSP in the area and the CPMR for the level of the Regions.

Objectives

Basin scale analysis strongly MSP oriented. Development of Transboundary Cooperation on Maritime Spatial Planning in Northern Atlantic Analysis of the Maritime Spatial Planning Process. Definition and application of MSP by the Ospar Convention taking into consideration the relationship between EU and non-EU countries. Land–sea interactions protocols and relationships with Integrated Coastal Management (ICM). Definition of the most appropriate geographical scale for MSP plans at national scale. Setting spatial demands and future trends for maritime sectors and marine conservation. Outputs

Support access to and use of maritime spatial data. Specification and prototyping of Spatial Multi Criteria Decision Aids algorithms dedicated to MSP. Definition of actions to Improve Stakeholder Engagement. Realization of 5 case studies to demonstrate how the challenges to MSP implementation, specifically transboundary working, can be addressed. Preliminary proposed sites to be revised: Case Study 1: Bay of Biscay Case Study 2: North western marine waters of Iberian coasts Case Study 3: Fuenterrabia
