Commvault Clinical Archiving A COMPREHENSIVE END-TO-END DECOMMISSIONING SOLUTION FOR LEGACY PACS With increased regulatory requirements and changes in reimbursement remittance—coupled with several hundred hospital mergers expected by 20201—healthcare organizations are exploring a variety of technology options to lower costs while improving patient care. One significant opportunity is centralizing your clinical archiving infrastructure and retiring or “decommissioning” legacy picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) to increase efficiency, maximize resources and eliminate unnecessary costs of maintaining legacy applications. Sharing images and other data between clinical systems is a central tenet of interoperability. However, many healthcare organizations are still struggling to find the right solution that can meet the changing demands of patient care and produce a return on investment. In today’s climate of fiscal prudence, cost reduction, vendor consolidation and breaking down data silos, it requires healthcare organizations to carefully select IT solutions that are flexible enough to support both short-term data migration as well as long-term data management strategies to improve operational efficiency now and in the future.

CREATING A PACS ARCHIVING STRATEGY THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU. With Commvault, you can decommission any number of your old PACS solutions into a single data management platform, while keeping your legacy studies available for access by a new PACS or for bulk migration at a later date. HOW DOES IT WORK? Your data is extracted from the legacy PACS in its original format, migrated into the clinical archive and stored. If you want to use your data for future clinical uses, such as prior comparisons or clinical studies, it can be cleaned up during the migration into the Commvault solution or on-demand when routed to other clinical systems in the future. Our decommissioning solution is based on your organization’s needs and strategic data management plans.

• Eliminate the cost of future migrations • Reduce the administrative cost of managing, maintaining and upgrading multiple archives • Eliminate the maintenance, hardware replacement and support costs for maintaining legacy PACS applications

WHAT DOES IT EXTRACT? The clinical archive is used to extract data from the legacy PACS to the clinical archive and migrated data is available for search, reconciliation and routing to selected destinations. Additionally, the clinical archive can be configured to deliver studies to PACS for patients identified in a DICOM modality worklist or HL7 ADT interface. (Figure 1)
