OCCUPANCY function
AISC [2-10], based on ASCE 7
Load Combinations • STRENGTH • 1.4 D • 1.2 D + 1.6 L + 0.5 (Lr or S or R) • 0.9 D +/- (1.0 W or 1.0 E)
…etc.
• SERVICEABILITY • D+L, or L only
• W (with some load combinations per ASCE)
Resistance Factors, • Depend on limit state • Tension Member
• Yield
= 0.9
• Fracture
= 0.75
• Compression = 0.9 • Flexural Yield = 0.9 • Shear Yield
= 1.0 (for rolled I-shaped members)
Unified Specification
- Modern Steel Construction, March 2005
The “dichotomy between LRFD and ASD had to be eliminated” Improved Commentary and added User Notes
AISC 2010 Specification • Some of the changes • Structural Integrity of Connections – added • Design for Stability – major revisions • Compression, Flexure, Shear – minor changes
(some for consistency with other standards) • Composite Members – reorganization, new topics, expansion based on test results • Connections – some changes based on test results http://www.aisc.org/UploadedContent/2010NASCCSessions/E3/
