Cancellation Policy

Stop by or call the membership office for assistance before you join another Y. Refund Policy

Membership and activation fees are nonrefundable. Program fees are refundable only if the YMCA cancels the class. Credits are given for doctor substantiated reasons and then only for the portion of fees unused after written notification.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

For your convenience the Y offers three types of membership payment plans: Bank Draft, Full Annual Payment (cash, check, Visa or Mastercard), and monthly payment. Monthly payments are due on the 1st of each month. 1. Bank Draft is an automatic monthly withdrawal from your checking, savings, or Credit Card account. We will need a copy of a voided check and the first month’s payment to begin. This plan is perpetual, which means once started it runs continuously until you decide to stop. To terminate or change a Bank Draft membership see the Cancellation Policy. 2. Full Annual Payment is paid upon purchasing or renewing a membership by cash, check or credit card. 3. The monthly payment plan offers members the opportunity to pay for their annual membership by the month. Payments must be received by the 10th of each month, no invoices will be sent. Payments received after the 10th will have a $10 late fee added to the balance due. The membership is perpetual. To cancel see Cancellation Policy.

A $50 Joiner’s Fee is charged at the time of sign up for adult and household memberships and $25 for college memberships. The joiner’s fee is charged to help assure we can keep ongoing memberships as low as possible. This fee is non-refundable.

Members may put their membership on hold for a maximum of three months one time per year.

AWAY We welcome active members of other YMCAs around the country at our Y while visiting from out of town. A.W.A.Y. visitors must complete a guest waiver and present a current photo identification with first and last name and date of birth, as well as Y membership I.D. Photo I.D. required at each visit. Members visiting from YMCAs within a 50 mile radius of Burlington may visit 3 times/month. Subsequent visits will be charged $5/visit. This includes Ft. Madison, Keokuk, Macomb, Monmouth, Muscatine and Galesburg. YMCA members outside a 50-mile radius may visit up to 8 days/month at no charge. Subsequent visits will be charged $5/visit. Each local YMCA sets its own policies and each participating YMCA in the A.W.A.Y. program develops its own local restrictions. Scanning Cards Scanning cards means better security and better • service to our members. To protect your membership investment and keep fee increases to a minimum, members are required to scan their membership • cards each time they visit. •

Health Service Center

The Men’s and Women’s Health Service Center can be purchased in addition to your physical membership. Facilities include: use of a Far Infrared sauna, whirlpool, steam room, a spacious lounge with cable TV, free towel service and individual lockers. Must • be a member of the Burlington Y to purchase HSC Access. •

Online registration is available at www.burlingtony.org for many programs. Register early to ensure enrollment availability. Classes do not meet on holidays. In case of severe weather, all youth programs will be canceled in conjunction with the Burlington Community School District announcements. Listen to local radio stations for class cancellations and announcements, call the cancellation hotline at (319) 753-6734 ext. 3, or visit our website at www.burlingtony.org. Credits or make-ups will not be given for classes missed. Registrations will be taken until a class meets the second time or with program director’s approval. You must be a member of the Burlington Y through the entire program session if paying the member program fee. Transferring from one class to another or changing an enrollment from one person to another must be approved by the program director before the first week of classes, spaces permitting. All programs with low enrollment are subject to change including combining, canceling or reducing class time. All class fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. Watch Week is held the last week of each session. This is the only time parents/ guardians are allowed in the gymnastics area and pool deck. This enhances students’ attention spans and allows for optimum practice time. Substitute instructors may occasionally be used during the session. Private lesson cancellation policy: A 24 hour notice is required, otherwise one lesson will be lost.

Don’t miss this annual event! The 17th Annual Burlington Area YMCA fundraiser will be held Friday, January 17, 2014 at Catfish Bend Event Center. This year’s event will feature comedian Tim Walkoe.

Tim is a veteran headliner at over 100 comedy clubs nationwide including the Comedy Stop in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, Funny Bones, Comedy Store and many more. He has also been a featured performer at the Chicago Comedy Festival for the past 4 years.

Join us on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm in the Community Room for our 5th Annual Deck the Halls Christmas event. We will be reading “The Gingerbread Man”, serving chocolate milk and a snack as well as making a holiday craft. Also on the agenda is face painting and reindeer games! A special visit with Santa will also be included! Parents must attend with their children. This is a FREE event, but please bring a non-perishable food item for the Area Food Pantries. Body Makeover Challenge Make 2014 a year to remember! The focus will be on exercise and nutrition. During the program you will be offered one-on-one personal training, aerobic classes, nutrition advice, and more! You will be set up with a personal trainer who will monitor your progress through the 12 week program. Meetings featuring special guest speakers will be held twice per month. A max of 25 participants will be accepted. Winner receives a 1 year membership to the Y. Registration: December 16–January 24 Weigh in Week: January 27-January 31 Program Dates: February 3-April 29 Fee: $100 (must be a member)

Santa’s Spinning and Fruitcake 5K Join us at the Y for fun before you indulge (or over indulge)! You can choose to do a duathlon or just 1 event. Lazy Man Triathlon

Here’s Your Chance To Do An Ironman!

Burlington Endurance Athlete Sports Team (BEAST)

An 8 week time frame to finish an Ironman Triathlon

(swim 2.4 mi, cycle 112 mi, walk/run 26.2mi) Swim 84 laps (down and back = 1lap), Cycling can be done indoors or outdoors and the walk/run can be done on a track, elliptical or outside. Logsheets will be kept at the front desk. Please fill in your sheet as you complete the exercise. Challenge must be complete by March 1, to receive a t-shirt. Competition runs January 6-March 2, 2014 Registration is from December 1-31, 2013 Fee: $10 (for members only)

Is a membership of highly motivated, funloving athletes who train, race and socialize together. We include all levels of experience and expertise and welcome endurance athletes and anyone interested in triathlons, cycling, running and mountain biking. We currently have beginning members in the various disciplines, as well as seasoned veterans who have competed at the national levels in triathlons, marathons, swimming and cycling events. Push-up Challenge Sign up in the functional training room for the winter push-up challenge. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, daily pushups will be set up for every level. Let’s see a little friendly competition with your work out buddies! The challenge will run for 1 month, starting January 6.

Winter “Spin Off” The race is on! Sign up in the cycling room for the winter spin off. The person that logs the most miles on a spin bike, during class wins! Only miles during a class will count. Winter Power Volleyball League

Adult Indoor Soccer

Play is governed by USVBA rules. Coed teams may have 3 to 6 players on the floor. Rally scoring will be used. Players must be in 9th grade or older and have at least one adult on the team. League registration form and fees must be turned in together before registration deadline. Eight matches guaranteed with an end of the season tournament. Winner of tournament will receive t-shirts. Registration: January 2 - January 26 League Dates: Mondays beginning Feb. 3 Tournament held March 31 Fee: $175 per team

Sign up your team for this fast-paced recreational soccer league. The league will be held on Sunday evenings. There are two divisions: Advanced and Intermediate. Games are played with four players and a goalie on the court at a time. Games are played in two 25-minute halves. Team registration is required, but players will pay individually. Minimum of 8 players per TEAM; maximum of 10. Registration packets can be picked up at the Y front desk. Players may only play on one team. Open to the first 8 teams in both leagues. Burlington Youth Soccer & Southeast Elite Want to try something new and fun! Try one Soccer Academy of our youth fitness classes.

FAST Program This 16 session program is a collaboration between the Burlington Y and Great River Health Systems. Classes will be held at the Y’s gym 2 and Great River Athletic and Performance Center staff will perform a fitness assessment including a series of tests to determine each individual’s fitness level. FAST athletes will go through a screening which includes the following: height, weight, flixibility screening (low back & hamstring) and agility, vertical and speed testing. Each class focuses on functional movements: flexibility, strength, cardio and speed. Ages: 8-14 Dates: Tuesdays/Thursdays beginning Jan. 7th Times: 4:00-5:00 pm (gym 2) Fee: $160/athlete.

T-Ball and T-Ball+ Youth will be encouraged to develop their fundamental skills in a fun, outdoor environment. Games will be held on Tuesday evenings for T-Ball and Thursdays for T-Ball +. Tumble Buddies: Have fun with your toddler (18 mo - 3 yrs) in a parent-child class! This class is designed for the very young gymnast who still requires a guardian to accompany him or her out on the floor. Children will begin learning motor coordination, balance and socialization skills. Parents/Guardians will learn to spot their gymnast on various beginning skills and will be able to play freely during a portion of the class. Must be able to walk or run 45 min. Tumble Tot’s: This class for 3 year olds introduces listening skills, body positioning, movement skills and basic tumbling skills. 30 min. Tumble Cubs: For students 4 years old. SAFARI AND QUEST Safari & Quest are the ideal 10 week programs that will meet the needs of working parents and their children. The program offers weekly trips, free swimming lessons, library reading program, picnics at the park and one free week at Camp McBride. Please note that all aquatics programs are subject to change due to low enrollment. If a swim lesson has fewer than 3 participants enrolled, that class will be combined with a similar class, cancelled, or reduced from 40 minutes to 30 minutes. Any water fitness class with less than 3 participants enrolled will be canceled for the session and class fees will be credited.

Karen Thie has been an Aquatic Director since 1995 and has been at the Burlington Y since 2006. She is a 1992 graduate of Iowa State University with a BA in Leisure Studies. She is faculty with the YMCA of the USA for YMCA Lifeguards, Swimming Lessons and is an instructor in CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen Administration. Karen has been involved in teaching aquatic classes for over 20 years.

Swim Assessments Swim assessments are for those who are unsure for which level to register. Participants need to come prepared to get in the pool for 10-15 minutes. All Parent/Child classes are 30 minutes long and grouped together. Shrimp - Age: 6 - 8 months. This is an introduction to the aquatic environment for parents and their infants. Parents are encouraged to develop appropriate expectations for their children’s performance in the water. They learn basic aquatic safety and have a positive experience with their child that helps them bond. Kipper - Age: 9 - 12 months. This level continues to provide positive aquatic experiences for parents and infants. The infants learn basic skills and have fun playing with toys and flotation devices. Parents review and learn more about basic aquatic safety. Inia - Age: 13 - 23 months. Children do more independent exploration of the aquatic environment with help from their parents. The parents again review and learn additional information about aquatic safety. The program provides opportunities for parent/child teams to socialize with each other. Perch - Age: 24 - 36 months. Children start moving more independently through the water under their parents’ guidance. Parents learn more about aquatic and boating safety, and children begin to learn something about these topics as well. At this point the instructor begins to prepare the children to work directly with an instructor on their own.

Pike - Age: 3 - 5 years. This level helps children develop safe pool behavior, adjust to the water, and develop independent movement in the water. It is designed for new swimmers, teaching basic paddle stroke and kicking skills, pool safety, proper use of instructional flotation devices and PFDs, and comfort with holding the face in the water while blowing bubbles and swimming. May be combined Youth Swimming Lessons: Ages 6-11 with Eel if enrollment is low. Polliwog- Age: 6 – 11. This is the beginning level for school-age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices, and floating. By the end of this level, they should know the front paddle stroke, side and back paddle, and some synchronized swimming and wetball (lead-up game to water polo) movements.
