[email protected] Text: The University of Chicago School Mathematics Project, Functions, Statistics, and Trigonometry, 2nd edition, Scott Foresman, Addison Wesley, 1998. Course Content: This year long course is recommended for students that are contemplating a career (business, social work, psychology, etc.) that requires some knowledge of statistics. The course integrates ideas of functions and trigonometry with statistics and data analysis necessary to function successfully in the worlds of today and tomorrow. Technology: Graphics calculators with statistical capabilities will be used daily. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you have a Graphics Calculator. The TI-84 is recommended. Other TI graphics calculators may also be used. Since the TI calculators will be used in class, other brands are discouraged. Other technology will be used in the classroom throughout the school year. Requirements/Grading: Homework (11%) – given daily and checked most of the time 25 points each assignment 10 pts. will be subtracted for late work, 10 pts. will be subtracted if work is not shown, 5 pt. will be subtracted for each unattempted problem (no evidence of an attempt is shown) Extra Credit – for students needing an extra challenge – offered sporadically throughout the course – 5 to 25 pts. each Activities (8%), Computer Work or Projects – generally 3-5 per chapter Quizzes (25%) – generally 2 per chapter, 15-35 pts. each Tests (43%) – 1 per chapter, usually 100 pts. each

Semester Final Exam (13%) - (approximately 1/7 of grade to be calculated into semester average) – at the end of the semester, coving all semester material Extra Help: Students are encouraged to come in for extra help whenever needed. They can come in before school, during lunch, or after school. It is important to keep up with the material and understand it on a daily basis. Don’t wait to get help until the end of the unit. Other information: Students should not bring cell phones, headphones, ipods, or other similar devices to class. Students may bring a snack or a beverage provided it does not disrupt the learning in the class.
