Training Resource Estimation 10 Day Comprehensive Workshop 29 July - 3 August and 20 - 24 August 2007, Perth This 10 day training and workshop is designed for both novice and experienced resource analysts wanting to learn how to implement advanced geostatistical concepts in VULCAN. The course is a combination of theoretical context and hands-on application. You will learn the fundamental concepts and processes and how to put these into practice in VULCAN. Each attendee will have access to a dedicated computer, where you will learn to apply techniques within VULCAN through case studies. The course is peppered with hints and tips. There is also ample opportunity to gain experience through open discussions and activities. Our objective is to foster your capability through conceptual explanations, discussions and practical applications. This is a great opportunity to extend your own set of skills in resource estimation, including standard resource estimation and advanced concepts of Multi-Variate Analysis, KNA (Kriging Neighbourhood Analysis) and Conditional Simulation.

Course Outline The course is made up of two sessions of one week each, with a two-week break in between. Week 1 • Geology and domains • Volume-variance effect and implications • EDA, data validation and analysis, drift analysis, compositing and declustering • Variography, directional analysis, method, theory and application • Different methods of estimation: simple and ordinary kriging, Indicator and various applications of kriging • Selecting an estimation method • Model validation Two-week break to apply your learning, prepare for feedback and questions for the second week. Week 2 • Tools for resource classification • Categorical kriging • KNA (Kriging Neighbourhood Analysis) and block size optimisation • Dilution modelling • Multi-variate data analysis (regression, cross-vargioraphy) • Conditional simulation (Sequential Indicator and Sequential Gaussian) • Correlated multi-variate conditional simulation (Step-wise method) The course culminates in participants sharing applications. We encourage you to bring and work with your own data.

Presenters Jacqui Coombes, Principal, Coombes Capability, is passionate about sharing geostatisticial knowledge and experience. Since gaining a Masters degree in Geostatistics 17 years ago, Jacqui has been working in the resources industry, including 12 years with Snowden. Jacqui also runs technical mentoring programs in the mining industry. She is delighted with this opportunity to share her experience in resource estimation and reconciliation across all commodities and is committed to fostering your resource estimation skills. Rachel Burgess, MSc (Geology), works in Maptek Perth’s Technical Services Team and previously worked in our UK office. Rachel focuses on running Maptek’s VULCAN training, generating 3D models and consulting as a Geologist. Claudia Monreal, Maptek Perth Technical Services Manager, is a Mining Engineer with 10 years of experience. As a consultant with Maptek in Chile, Claudia worked with several mine sites in South America supporting their resource estimation projects, 3D modelling and grade control activities. Claudia also worked in Chuquicamata as a Resource Engineer.
