Newsletter 39 10 December 2014 Dear Parents, We have come to the end of 2014. What a busy, hectic, wonderful year this has been. We all, parents, pupils and teachers, deserve a well-earned rest.

Staffing Update At the start of next year I will introduce you to all the new staff who will be joining us for 2015. We, however, need to say some goodbyes to: Eban Tucker, our History teacher, who retires after 37 years at Camps Bay High School. Alexa le Chat, our Dance teacher, who leaves to work part time while completing her PhD. Kelly Brooker, our English teacher, who leaves to teach at a school closer to home. Jenni van Doesburgh, our Maths teacher, who leaves for a job in the corporate world. Linda Stephens, our Maths teacher, who returns to University to take up a research position. Bryce van der Laar, who has taught English, leaves to take up a full time Music post at another school. Bianca Flanders, who has taught drama, will be performing next year in the new David Kramer production. A big fuss has been made of Mr Tucker and rightly so. We, however, were really sad to learn that Miss le Chat is leaving, as she has been both a pupil and a teacher at the school. She was the Head Prefect in 2003 and then returned in 2010 to start Dance at the school. Her organisational and leadership skills were quickly noticed and before long she was appointed as Head of Life Orientation. Over the years Miss le Chat has been instrumental in many extra school programmes around RAK week and the Career Fairs. She is a hard-working teacher who has added real value to the school and will be sorely missed. Mrs Brooker joined the English Department at Camps Bay High School three years ago. She has proved to be an exceptional English teacher who is capable of taking top pupils to the next level. We will miss her and wish her every success at her new school. We have two great, part-time English teachers, who are also leaving. A big thank you to Adeline Radloff, who has worked miracles with the pupils struggling to pass English. Thank you also to Anna Scott, who did a great job lightening the load in the English Department.

Grade 8 – 11 Results We are very happy with our end of year results. Our pass rates are as follows: Grade 8 100% pass rate Grade 9 97% pass rate Grade 10 100% pass rate Grade 11 96% pass rate I am including the top 20 in each grade for your interest. Congratulations to these top achievers.

Clothing Shop Sally Preen ran a competition in the clothing shop. Parents who bought their uniform in November and December went into a lucky draw. The winning family would get their invoice refunded, in other words their uniform for free. On Monday I did the draw and the lucky winner is Thomas Symons.

WCED Textbooks WCED textbooks can be collected on Monday 19 January (09h00 – 12h00) and on Tuesday 20 January (09h30 – 13h30)

Blanket Squares A big thank you to all the parents, pupils and members of the Camps Bay extended family who knitted squares. These squares were joined into a blanket (as seen in the picture). We provided enough squares for 2 ½ blankets. These blankets are then given to orphans through a project called the Dandelion Project. The idea is that they have this blanket which will be theirs to keep forever.

2015 Calendar The 2015 calendar is added to assist with your forward planning. School starts on Wednesday 21 January 2015 at 07h55. It will be Day One on the calendar. All pupils are expected to be correctly dressed and with their hair and jewellery complying with school standards. The office will open at 09h00 on Friday 16 January 2015. In conclusion I wish you all a restful and festive holiday as you are able to spend time together as a family. Yours sincerely. Regards, David de Korte Principal
