EIVA a/s Handling if UDP/IP ports in NaviScan and NaviPac The Handling of UDP/IP port (networking telegrams) is different in NaviPac and NaviScan. The purpose of this document is to describe what to do in various scenarios.

Read data in NaviPac If an instrument (no matter what type) is set to send data to NaviPac on a UDP/IP port, then NaviPac must be set up as follows:

The port number is a logical number, and must be set as defined in the sending computer/instrument. The IP address must be the address of the computer running NaviPac, i.e. it’s own address. If the input was generated from the computer itself, they you may use 127:0:0:1 instead.

Send Data from NaviPac If NaviPac is set up to transmit data to an external system /NaviScan or similar) on a UDP/IP port, then you must do as follows:

The Port number must be agreed between the sender (NaviPac) and the receiver, and must not be occupied to anything else on the receiving computer. Windows has a tendency of using some low numbers, so we recommend that you use numbers above 5000 (NaviPac uses some 4000 numbers internally) The IP address must be the address of the computer/unit to receive the data. If more than one is too read data, you might enter 255 as the fourth digit (255 = broadcast). If the receiver is on the same computer, then you may use 127:0:0:1 as receiving address.

Read data in NaviScan If NaviScan (former known as NaviBat) are to read data on a DP/IP port, then the following setting must be used:

The port type must be set to UDP/IP (not TCP/IP as it has a tendency of crashing the system). The port number must be set as defined in the sending computer. The address must be the TCP/IP address of the sending computer.
