AVLC Aquatic Upgrade What you need to know July 2015

Commencing in mid-August this year Council is embarking on a project to make significant upgrades to the 25m pool. Upgrades will include installing water play features, an accessible beach entry plus an additional two lap lanes.

When will the works start? Key dates for the project are as follows:  New accessible change rooms to commence in mid- August. These works are not likely to impact patrons.  25m pool works to commence mid – September. At this point the pool will no longer be available for use. A date for the closure of the aquatics area will be communicated in the coming weeks and are expected to take approx. nine months

Will the centre remain open during the works? Yes, the 25m pool and family change rooms (including the existing disabled change room) are the major facilities to be impacted by these works. The centre’s remaining facilities will continue to operate unchanged throughout the majority of the works. Any additional areas that are impacted by the works will be communicated to members. What will happen to my membership? The following options are available to members while the 25m pool is not available; 

if they decide to reactivate their membership at any future date.

Members also have the ability to visit East Keilor Leisure Centre, Windy Hill Fitness Centre (aquatic facilities only) and Queens Park Swimming Pool (during summer). Members will simply need to present their AVLC membership card when visiting these facilities.

What happens to swimming lessons during this period?

Suspend your membership free of charge for the duration of the works and return to the new and improved AVLC in 2016. By suspending your membership you will continue to receive updates about the centre and the progress of the works. Members who choose to suspend their membership for the duration of the works will not need to pay the startup fee if they return during the re-launch period at the conclusion of the works.

Council and Belgravia Leisure are working hard to relocate classes into the Learn to Swim Pool and Warm Water Exercise Pool. However classes with more advanced children will have the opportunity to transfer their classes to either East Keilor Leisure Centre or Windy Hill Fitness Centre. Families who this relates to will be contacted individually by the Swim School Coordinator directly with specific information on available alternative classes.

What will happen to my aqua aerobics class? Many aqua aerobics classes will be relocated to the Warm Water Exercise Pool. This will be communicated on the new group fitness timetable to be released mid-August. The new group fitness timetable will also be offering a number of new and exciting programs to keep you fit and healthy over the refurbishment period.

What is the difference between cancelling my membership and suspending my membership? Members who choose to suspend their membership will automatically be reactivated at the conclusion of the works. You will also continue to receive updates on the works throughout this period. Members who choose to cancel their membership will be required to pay a startup fee
