2004 – 2007 Mazda RX-8
Condition: The operator of the vehicle may complain of difficulty starting when the engine is turned off (or stalled) in cold temperatures.
Cause:
There are 2 possible causes for this: - Vehicles built prior to June 1, 2004 (VIN JM1FE17------139714) require a Panasonic battery JIS 75D23L, Mazda 0000-80-6535-WB, Interstate MTP35 or equivalent. - Lower then specification cranking compression.
Correction: Verify that the battery is the correct one and that it is in proper condition and completely charged. If the battery is not the cause of the issue follow the manufacturers recommended procedures for testing the compression as outlined in Mazda bulletin 01-048/06.
